Dear Friends;
Before you read this letter, jump in your car, fill up the gas tank, drive to the mall and buy a pair
of khaki pants. Then come back, catch your breath, and read on.
Perhaps, now it will be a little clearer to you why gaffers tape prices are going up, yet again.
The primary components in gaffers tape are cotton cloth (remember the khaki pants) and oil
based synthetic adhesives (the "fill up the gas tank" part of my introduction).
U.S. based adhesive-backed tape manufacturers are competing on a global basis for the raw
materials they need to make tape. In addition to global demand for cotton (prices doubled in
the last year), continued problems in the primary oil producing countries of the Middle East
make the price for this tape component more volatile than it has ever been.
We appreciate your orders and your ongoing loyalty and feel the pain of anyone in the
production business who must deal with price increases at a point where the economy in our
industry is just getting back on its feet.
I am confident that the manufacturers of the products we offer are doing all they can to hold
down price increases, and we applaud their efforts. They are in a tough spot.
If you have any observations or comments regarding tape pricing, or any strategies you would
like to share regarding how to get the most out of a roll of tape, please let me know. I can be
reached at the number above, or email me at jeff@harrisonbros.com.
Regards,
Jeff Harrison
